What’s the Weekend Warriors Program all about?
Allans Music operates the Weekend Warrior Program from its Alexandria store in NSW and from its Kew and Melbourne CBD stores in VIC. If you are between 35-60 (or either side and love good rock, rock'n roll from the 60's, 70's and 80's and even new music) and want to play in a band again or for the first time, then we will hook you up with other players. We provide:
. A coach to match up skill levels, recommend the bands' makeup, help agree on a set list and generally guide your band towards its first public appearance.
. Quality gear to ensure you get the most out of your experience
. Organise the rehearsals and provide you with fully equipped rehearsal facilities
. Organise a professionally staged gig to showcase your achievements to family and friends
How do you get involved?
You just need to come along to the first jam of a program – just turn up! The first jam is a getting-to-know you session where you will meet the coach, our store staff, other warriors that have completed previous programs and other people interested in doing the program for the first time. You’ll also get the chance to have some fun and play….and don’t worry about being nervous because almost everyone is! We provide top quality PA, drum set, guitars, keyboards and amps for the jam. You’re welcome to bring a guitar or bass if you like but to keep things easier for everyone it’s best to use the supplied amps, kit and keyboards provided.
What happens after the jam?
After the jam the coach will put together up to five bands after assessing styles, standard, rehearsal time availability, etc. The coach considers many variables and circumstances when putting the band members together. The coach will then call a short meeting to announce the bands’ make up, agree on a rehearsal schedule and set-list.
How many rehearsals do the bands have?
Every band will have a weekly 2 hour rehearsal for 4 weeks with your coach. Rehearsals are designed by the coach to be effective with Warriors/ time. Punctuality and reliability are essential once the program is agreed.
And the final gig?
The final gig gives you the opportunity to show your friends, family and workmates what you’ve been up to! You’ll amaze them (and probably yourself) with how far you’ve come during the program. Generally these final gigs are packed out, and are a completely realistic rock experience with Allans Music organising the band venue, professional PA and lighting, in additional to the guitars, amps, keyboards, mics and drum kit. There is a cover charge of around $10 for everyone attending (except the band members of course) with profits going towards charity.
What's the Cost?
The fee of $295 fee covers everything – the gear you use, the coaching, the rehearsals and the final gig. We ask, along with your commitment to the program, to be paid up before the first rehearsal.
How do I register my interest?
Click here and leave your details and we’ll keep in touch with you and let you know about new programs coming up or final gigs for other programs. There are occasions when we have too many people registering for a particular round of Weekend Warriors and on these occasions priority is given to those that have registered first. So make sure you don't miss out - register your interest in becoming a Weekend Warrior as soon as possible!
